Book Sharing, Revision & Giraffe

Today, Wei Xiang and Germaine brought us books on animals. Wei Xiang's book is about Dreamwork cartoon - Madagascar 2 : Escape Africa. The book is quite lengthily, I'm not sure if I want to start with it. So I told Wei Xiang that we shall find a time to read it. Germaine brought us a book on Dora's Eggs. I shared that book with the children today.

After that, we had a revision on the facts that we had learned about leopard and cheetah. I get the children to recall back the facts and put it into their own words.

We started off with leopard.
Germaine: Leopard eats meat.
Wei Xiang: It can crunch bones.
Jie Min: Leopard's teeth is very sharp.
Germaine: It doesn't have "tear" lines.
Wei Xiang: It hunts at night. It use nose to smell.
Umeko: It can run at 60 km/hr.
Kai Yuan: Leopard....cat. (I think he wanted to say that leopard is from the cat family.)
Wei Xiang: It climbs tree.

After that, we moved on to recall the facts about cheetah.
Dexter: Cheetah has "tear" lines.
Germaine: It is from the cat family.
Wei Xiang: It doesn't have strong teeth and jaws.
Jie Min: It can run very fast.
Yun Han: It eats meat.
Umeko: It is not strong and bulkier. (It is taller and thinner.)
Germaine: It cannot crunch bones.
Wei Xiang: It hunts during the day. (Germaine: It hunts by eyesight.)
Umeko: It likes grassy plain.
Germaine: It likes to stay in groups.

Our lesson today is to move on to giraffe after leopard and cheetah. Therefore, I get the children to share their thoughts about giraffe.
Jie Min: It eat leaves.
Wei Xiang: Giraffe's neck is very long.
Germaine: It has lots of polka-dots.
Jie Min: Giraffe is yellow.
Germaine: And the polka dots are black.
Wei Xiang: Not black, it's brown.

Before showing them the video, I get some of the children to draw a picture of giraffe on the board.

Then, I played the video about giraffe for the kids to observe the facts about this animal.

After observing the giraffe from the video, I distributed a piece of paper for the children to draw their own giraffe.
