Sharing about Finding Dory

The children arrived back to the school from the movie theater about 2pm today. Therefore, they quickly took their bath and lunch. As a result, the children had their nap until 4pm. I brought them out to run about before they had their snack time around 4:30pm.

We started our class around 5pm today. I wanted to get the children to talk about the movie, however, only 3 said that they understand the story while the rest just looked puzzle. I tried my best to mention some sea creatures in the movie with the hope that the children could recall the story line. Unfortunately, the children seem to look tired and puzzled about it as well.

Therefore, I called it a day. We shall talk about it on the next day with the hope that their class teacher could explain or even described it in Mandarin before I see them again in the afternoon.

Sorting Out the Worksheet

Our English thematic class for Durian class is coming to an end soon. After the Raya Aidilfitri holiday, they shall switch back to Bahasa Malaysia thematic class.

Therefore today, I needed the help of the children to sort out their worksheets so that we could discuss of the remaining activities that they wish to work on. The children helped me to sort out the worksheet by referring to the vocabulary list that I listed out in their class.

The children were going for a field trip to the movie theater tomorrow to watch - Finding Dory. According to the amended schedule, I might not be able to carry out much activity with the children except to talk about the movie with the children after the show.

Bear & Tiger Worksheet

I have shown the children a video about bears, yet, when I asked the children what does a bear eat, they couldn't really answer me. Some gave me honey, some gave me meat.

Therefore, I played them a video showing grizzly bear hunting for salmon fish at the river. The children were amazed to see how the fish jumped right into the mouth of the grizzly bear.

Then, I have prepared a worksheet of tiger for the children to work on it. The content of the worksheet is according to the video that they watched a few days ago.

Drama : Hungry Lion

Drama : Hungry Lion

The children had tried out the puppet show. I suggested that they could do a drama instead. The children remembered the stage performance of The Hungry Lion at the graduation ceremony by the Mix Class last year. They wanted to perform the same drama in the class.

As a result, I guided them to list out the character that we needed - lion, monkey, zebra, crocodile, elephant and giraffe. After that, I guided them to write out the dialogue needed for the drama. Surprisingly, the children remembered the lines said by those characters. Wow! I guessed it is because the dialogue is pretty easy to say.

Example:

Lion: I'm so hungry. (The lion is looking for food and found a zebra. It approached the zebra.)
Zebra: Stop! You cannot eat me. I'm too fast.
Giraffe: Stop! You cannot eat me. I'm too fierce.

The children will have to recall the characteristic of those animals and gave me the dialogue accordingly.

Once the children had read through the script, they select a character to act out in the drama and we did. The children had so much fun. We might be able to carry out the drama playing again if we have the time next week.

Puppet Show by the Children

After the demonstration and one of the group children had done on last Tuesday, I get the other group of children to play with the puppet show today.

However, before that, I played them a video about black bear and also replay the tiger video for those who were absent on last Tuesday.

After taking a short break, I get the group of children to get ready for the puppet show. They were very excited and wanted to start immediately. Once the children were in their position, I started to narrate the story of the "Three Little Pigs".

Here were some pictures taken:

After the puppet show, there were some 10 minutes left before we called it a day. The children wanted to play with the puppet that I made, therefore, I agreed to leave the puppet in their class so that they could continue playing with it.

Then, I showed them the cardboard picture that I did for the story "Three Little Pigs".

Without much hesitation, I started to tell the story by using all those puppets. The children had a good laugh at it.

After my demonstration of the story, 8 children wanted to take charge of each of the puppet and get me to retell the story again while they act accordingly. Everyone had fun today. I promised the children that we shall do this again on Thursday.

Note: It is a public holiday tomorrow. Therefore, they will be no blog update for 22nd June 2016.

Book Sharing

Today, I chose to share story books with the children and we did some discussion at the later part.

I picked 2 books to share with the class today.

1) Click Clack Crocodile Backs by Kathryn White & Joelle Dreidemy

2) Cock~a~Doodle Quack! Quack! by Ivor Baddiel and Sophie Jubb, Illustrated by Ailie Busby

After the story sharing session, we had a discussion on the puppet show that I mentioned to the children some time ago. My initial plan is to get the children to come out with a story of animals on their own. However, they find it difficult. In order to demonstrate to them, I chose to tell the story of the "Three Little Pigs". I get the children to discuss about the characters and the necessary pictures that we needed. We shall try it out tomorrow.

Art and Craft: Father's Day Present - Mache Bowl (part IV)

Today, the children could use some colour  papers, colour stamps or even with the use of the stencil rulers to draw some decorations onto the bowls that they had done yesterday.

Here were some pictures taken for the bowls done:

Art and Craft: Father's Day Present - Mache Bowl (part III)

The music teacher taught them a song for Father's Day.

After drying the bowls under the sun, it seems the glue got dry faster. Then, I removed all the mache bowls from the base and today, the children needed to paint their bowls with colours.

The children could choose red, green, blue or yellow to colour their bowl before we call it a day.

Note: The children will be going on a field trip to Aquaria KLCC tomorrow (16th June 2016). Therefore, there will be no blog update for tomorrow.

Art and Craft: Father's Day Present - Mache Bowl (part II)

I have checked the children's bowl after putting them under the sun, I noticed that the layers of the bowls were pretty thin. Therefore, I told the children that they needed to put more layers of the newspapers so that the bowl will form a harder structure.

I get the children to come and work in small groups so that I could supervise them personally.

I shall put the complete work under the sun again tomorrow so that the glue will get try faster.

Art and Craft: Father's Day Present - Mache Bowl (part I)

I have discussed with the children about making the bowl as a present for Father's Day which will fall on this coming Sunday.

I played them a video first so that they will have some idea how to handle the glue and paper onto their bowl.

Video: How to make a paper mache bowl

Then, I demonstrated on how to make glue with tapioca flour with cold and hot water.

After that, each of them was given some newspaper to be cut into stripes and pasted them onto the bowl which was being wrapped up with plastic bag.

Somehow, the children managed to complete the basic layer of the bowl.

We shall continue with the art work tomorrow.
